Dub Apocalypse w/ Adam &. the Flood

Dub Apocalypse w/ Adam &. the Flood

Dub Apocalypse is a powerhouse instrumental dub reggae band from Boston, MA; this time they’re bringing a Keene native and rap legend along! Dub Apocalypse is a powerhouse instrumental dub reggae band from Boston, MA, blending deep grooves, adventurous soundscapes, and top-tier musicianship. Formed in 2007, the band was started by drummer Tommy Benedetti (of American reggae pioneers John Brown’s Body) and guitarist Johnny Trama, and brings together some of the city’s most versatile players: Tommy Benedetti (drums) – A founding member of John Brown’s Body, Benedetti brings decades of experience in reggae and dub, having toured internationally and recorded for labels like Shanachie, John Zorn’s Tzadik (mixed by Bill Laswell), and Easy Star Records. He’s also backed legends like Justin Hinds and The Meditations. Johnny Trama (guitar) – Known for his soulful blues touch, Trama has toured with B.B. King’s organist Ron Levy and many regional soul and R&B acts, grounding Dub Apocalypse’s signature sound with his rhythmic clarity. clarity. Timo Shanko (sax/bass) – A dual-threat player and longtime friend of the band, Shanko adds Coltrane-inspired sax improvisation and heavy bass grooves. He’s a veteran of the blues and free jazz scenes, and has played with Eddie Kirkland and G. Love & Special Sauce. Aaron Bellamy (bass) – A fixture in Boston’s funk scene, Bellamy’s hard-hitting grooves lock in with Benedetti to create the militant rhythm core of the band. Van Martin (guitar) – Originally from Chicago, Martin adds sonic texture and songwriting chops. He’s toured with Bernie Worrell and Big Daddy Kane, bringing dub experimentation and bold improvisation to the DA sound.  Together, Dub Apocalypse mixes original compositions with deep cuts and reinterpretations from Jamaican and UK dub catalogs. Their live sets are dynamic, with a twin-guitar attack, jazz-fueled horn lines, and rock-solid rhythm at the center. The band has won a Boston Music Award, was named one of The Improper Bostonian’s “10 Local Acts You Need to Hear Now,” and maintains one of the city’s longest-running and most popular weekly residencies. They’ve released three full-length albums – Road to Oblivion, Frozen Planet, and Sound the Alarm – and have performed alongside reggae legends including Papa Michigan, Carlton Livingston, Jahdan Blakkamoore, and UK dub pioneer Mad Professor. Putting 30 years worth of experiences into a paragraph is hard to do. The main things to know are that Adam Arnone has been a serious rapper since before that was a viable career choice. Especially growing up in rural New Hampshire. He’s toured all over the country from the Warped Tour to The X Games. He’s the former frontman for the pioneering indie hip-hop groups Glue and Adeem and is the voice and music behind his latest mainstay Adam and the Flood. From a young age his love for hip-hop got him digging for vinyl in dusty thrift shops. Always the rapper, Adam watched his friends learn how to find the perfect sounds and then use drum machines and samplers to make beats. Years later, after looking for new ways to stretch his ideas, he formed a five-piece band. Live instruments opened up a new world of possibility. During the pandemic, Adam was isolated from the band but needed to keep creating. He decided to find a fresh sound by going back to his roots. With a midi keyboard, Logic Pro, and found audio, he started teaching himself how to sample and make beats. This led to starting his new project the creative agency Echo Finch.  To his surprise he likes making beats just as much as rapping. He appreciates getting a break from his own voice. Most recently Adam joined forces with legendary DJ D-Styles to create the full length “Chasing Gods”. Doors are at 7pm and music will start at 730. This show is all ages and seating is limited and also first come first served. Thanks to a grant from TD Charitable Foundation, this show has an Access For All option which lets you name your price (you can’t buy multiples of this option at the same time, so to buy more than one ticket, it is necessary to do each additional ticket in a different transaction).

Advance Base/Moontype/bobbie

Advance Base/Moontype/bobbie

Advance Base is the melancholic soft rock recording project of Chicago, IL, singer/songwriter Owen Ashworth (formerly of Casiotone for the Painfully Alone). Using a two-handed arsenal of electric piano, Omnichord, samplers, effect pedals & drum machines, Ashworth builds minimalist, heavy-hearted, & nostalgia-obsessed ballads around his conversational baritone. The warm, electronic sound of Advance Base has been described as “lo-fi,” “depressed,” & “weirdly uplifting.” Animal Companionship, the third & most recent “studio” album by Advance Base, was released September 21, 2018, by Run For Cover Records / Orindal Records. GoldFlakePaint & Various Small Flames both listed Animal Companionship among their favorite albums of 2018. Since then, Advance Base has released Wall of Tears & Other-Songs I Didn’t Write, a home-recorded collection of (mostly) country/Americana covers arranged for electronic instruments & Live at Home, a collection of mid-quarantine livestream concert performances & the closest representation of an Advance Base live set commercially available. A new single titled ”Little Sable Point Lighthouse” was released on March 31, 2022. “It’s with no exaggeration that we describe Owen Ashworth as one of the most consistent and important songwriters in contemporary indie music. From the earliest Casiotone For the Painfully Alone demos to the most recent Advance Base single ‘Little Sable Point Lighthouse‘, Owen has crafted a catalogue of characters and circumstances with few rivals in the modern era. His is an ever-evolving body of work which stands out in its deftness and humility and empathy and care, bringing to life individuals from across the spectrum of human experience while remaining unerringly attuned to the tender, fallible heart at the centre of each.” – Various Small Flames “A Raymond Carver short story collection set to music by a Joan of Arc-era OMD” – MOJO Magazine So much of Moontype’s life-affirming magic is from the evolving confidence and relentless creative playfulness of its lead singer and bassist, Margaret McCarthy. As the leader of the Chicago indie rock outfit, she tackles soft, vulnerable emotions with striking clarity and immersive, unorthodox melodies. Their second album, I Let The Wind Push Down On Me, serves as a reinvention for the band—not just for their new and expanded lineup—but for how McCarthy navigates the changes in her own life and the messy feelings she sings about. Out May 23 via Orindal Records, the LP is a patient document of feeling things out, being easy on yourself, and finding the beauty in small moments. bobbie is ambient lo-fi dream pop music from Western Massachusetts. bobbie uses omnichord, electric guitar, vox + loops to create layers/spirals / songs about harmony, lessons, grief, friendship, and trusting the process.

Norma Dream Elijah Berlow Lyle De Vitry

Norma Dream + Elijah Berlow + Lyle de Vitry

Bask in the healing glow of sincerity and warmth with New Americana Music that explores the intimate relationships between sound and our emotional experiences through storytelling, clawhammer banjo, and fingerpicking guitar. Elijah Berlow Elijah Berlow is a Chicago-based songwriter and multi-instrumentalist folk musician. Originating from pastoral roots in Vineyard Haven, Massachusetts, Berlow is a playful storyteller with a narrative style grounded in the traditions of Americana music. As a vocalist, he emanates a sincere warmth through his thoughtful phrasing, and his diligent fingerpicking guitar-style leads steadily through the pulsing catharsis of any song. Pulling influence from greats such as Townes Van Zandt, Tom Waits, Roseanne Cash, and Mississippi John Hurt, Berlow creates music that is complex, soulful, and in conversation with a rich rhythmic history. He also derives inspiration from solitude in nature, perambulations in the neighborhood, and the conversations that arise when cooking a meal to share. Berlow’s music can currently be found on Bandcamp, including the self-released albums Under the Weather [2016] and Live at VCR [2019]. The single “Roadkill” [2019] can also be found on Spotify. Berlow can be found performing with his band locally in Chicago, as well as around the Midwest and the Northeast. Lyle de Vitry Hailing originally from Lancaster, Pennsylvania, Lyle de Vitry grew up in a household filled to the brim with music. The now Asheville-based singer-songwriter’s carefully crafted melodies and poetry are imaginative and thought-provoking as he explores themes of nature, love, impermanence, and the passing of time. At the heart of his creative practice, he explores the intimate relationships between sound and our emotional experiences—and how music can bring about both personal and communal healing. An acclaimed songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, de Vitry was selected as one of ten finalists for the 2023 Telluride Troubadours contest and was named runner-up in the 2023 NewSong LEAF Singer-Songwriter Competition. Norma Dream Norma Dream is a banjo player, songwriter, music educator, and community organizer from New England, whose work explores themes of tradition, community, and placemaking. Performing and touring with the organization Village Harmony, she has studied vocal traditions in England, South Africa, Corsica, and Bosnia, where she lived for six months. A lifelong clawhammer banjo player, she also maintains deep connections in the old-time music community of Eastern Kentucky. As a songwriter, Norma Jean explores the poetic and musical traditions of her New England homeplace, including Sacred Harp singing, the work of poets Emily Dickinson and Robert Frost, and unaccompanied balladry. A published author in music education, Norma Jean maintains a vibrant teaching practice. She currently serves as Music Director at The Common School in Amherst, Massachusetts.

@ Live At Stone Church

@ (pronouned “At”) live at Stone Church

@ (pronounced “At”) is the folk-pop project of vocalist/guitarist Victoria Rose and multi-instrumentalist Stone Filipczak, who owe their musical bond to the power of text messages. Although the pair initially met years ago, it wasn’t until spring 2020 that they began sending each other music between their respective cities — Rose, based in Philadelphia, and Filipczak, in Baltimore. A few exchanges down the line, Rose sent Filipczak an early recording of a song she’d written called “Star Game,” asking him to contribute drums. She didn’t anticipate what he returned to her: “I didn’t like it at first. It felt jarring to hear my music so arranged,” she says. “I almost plotted to end the collaboration.” But it wasn’t long before she came around to the potential of what she and Filipczak could create together. Filipczak’s version of “Star Game” became the second track on @’s debut album, Mind Palace Music, released in April 2021. Rose admits that she didn’t even think her bandmate would ever want to work with her in a formal capacity, given Filipczak’s niche background sharing bills with artists like Black Pus (Lightning Bolt drummer Brian Chippendale) and Guerrilla Toss. But with his keen, inventive ear for musicianship and Rose’s penchant for confessional lyrics and vibrant melodies, @ grew as an amalgam of their unique musical backgrounds and complementary strengths. In their review of the album, Pitchfork would go on to say, “Mind Palace Music is an example of what happens when you take a poignant songwriter who’s careful about her chord progressions and introduce a fellow songwriter who knows the magic of no-frills arrangements.” After the album’s release, @ received well-deserved recognition from Pitchfork, Stereogum, The Fader, and many more, and became an in-demand live act. Fortunately for fans, @ didn’t wait too long before working on new music. On January 12th, 2024, they released their new EP Are You There God? It’s Me, @. Diverting from their usual acoustic instrumentation, @ go soul-searching on a sonic side quest into more electronic music.

Hot Dirt / Terraces / Dinger

Hot Dirt / Terraces / Dinger

Three outstanding indie bands that go from shredding to shoegaze! A sweet survey of local(ish) underground sounds! Hot Dirt is a four-piece experimental rock band from Easthampton, Massachusetts formed in 2010 by Jeff Gilmartin (guitar), Brittany Brideau (guitar), Zachary Scoble (bass) and Joshua Daniel (drums). All of the members participate in a kitchen sink style of song writing, compounding ideas into an eccentric rock amalgam. Over the next year Hot Dirt will be releasing a new run of recordings for the first time in ten years. Catch them live and stay tuned for those new releases! Born recently in the quiet fields of Walpole, NH, TERRACES creates instrumental soundscapes that stretch wide and deep – inviting listeners into exciting terrain. Fast or slow, loud or hushed, TERRACES blends every shade of sound into immersive sonic topography – music to close your eyes and wander wherever the echoes may take you. This is TERRACES. Dinger makes music about inanimate objects, wild animals and obscure emotional states. Beginning as the lofi home recording project of Seth Blake and Adria Bregani ~ 2019, Dinger has evolved through 2020’s Meals Ready-to-Eat EP and 2023’s Dreaming can be taken lying down and now includes guitarist Tom Lusted (Zero Front) and multi-instrumentalist / producer Rory Hurley (Party of the Sun, Youngest Sun). Currently at work on a new album, their sound draws inspiration from garage, post-punk, krautrock, and DIY. To their knowledge, they are southern New Hampshire’s only post-exotic rock band.
