Baker Street Readers Announce Their Inaugural Season of Sherlock Holmes Stories

Brattleboro, VT – The Baker Street Readers are pleased to announce their first season of dramatic readings. Once a month, from January to June 2019, the Readers will present a dramatic reading of one of Arthur Conan Doyle’s original Sherlock Holmes stories at the Hooker-Dunham Theater in Brattleboro.

Each reading will feature well-known local actors James Gelter as Sherlock Holmes and Tony Grobe as Watson, with a rotating cast of guest actors.

The Readers first season includes six short stories from Conan Doyle’s first collection, The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes. These were the stories that introduced and popularized the characters of Holmes and Watson when they first appeared in The Strand magazine between July 1891 and June 1892, and later as a collection published in October 1892.

The season is as follows:

  • January 17 – The Adventure of the Speckled Band
  • February 28 – The Red-Headed League
  • March 21 – The Adventure of the Beryl Coronet
  • April 18 – The Man with the Twisted Lip
  • May 23 – A Scandal in Bohemia
  • June 20 – The Adventure of the Copper Beeches

The first reading of the season, The Adventure of the Speckled Band, tells the story of Helen Stoner, a young woman who has lived in seclusion with her stepfather ever since the mysterious death of her twin sister two years earlier. But when the strange whistles in the night that foreshadowed her sister’s death begin again, Ms. Stoner turns to the old’s greatest consulting detective to solve the mystery and, perhaps, save her life. The reading will feature Jessica Gelter as Helen Stoner and Geof Dolman as her infamous stepfather, Dr. Grimesby Roylott.

All shows begin at 7:00pm. Tickets are $5. For more information, visit Baker Street Readers on Facebook or email bakerstreetreaders@gmail.com
