Guitarist and songwriter Jeff Mattson is one of the Jam scene’s most lasting voices standing at the helm at Grateful Dead powerhouse Dark Star Orchestra for over twelve years. Establishing Long Island legends The Volunteers and The Zen Tricksters then rising to national
prominence with The Donna Jean Godchaux Band. Mattson has also
played with Phil Lesh & Friends both before and after taking the lead guitar post at DSO. Jeff’s songs appear on DJGB’s latest release, Back Around (Heart of Gold Records), and his work is prominently featured on five other albums (Donna Jean & the Tricksters , For Rex: The Black Tie-Dye Ball , Shaking Off the Weirdness , A Love Surreal , The Holy Fool ). He is known for serving rock and roll through engaging, fiery guitar work lifted by gentle vocals.
Pianist Rob Barraco has played music nearly his entire life joining Jeff Mattson in The Zen Tricksters after touring with R&B sensation Freddie Jackson in the late ’80s. Barraco followed the Grateful Dead path to prominence as a member of The Phil Lesh Quintet and touring with The Dead, before moving on to his long-term role he currently holds at
Dark Star Orchestra. Rob has one solo CD co-written with Robert Hunter titled When We All Come Home.
Bassist Thomas “Skip” Vangelas is a long-time fixture in the East Coast Grateful Dead community starting with the band Border Legion and moving into the national spotlight as a full-time touring member of Dark Star Orchestra.
Vocalist Lisa Mackey has been performing with Dark Star Orchestra
since its infancy. Mackey is an integral force of powerful vocals capable of leaving audiences stunned yet uplifted.
As the son of Rob Barraco, Drummer Tom Barraco was exposed to music at an early age and has recorded and toured with various Long Island rock bands. Tom attended Five Towns College, where he studied drums and percussion under notable jazz and Broadway drummer Azande Cummings and has been drumming in Jeff Mattson & Friends since the Fall of 2013.
