Event Details

Celebrate Women’s History Month with this series of talks highlighting women scientists in New England and beyond!

The connection between monarch butterflies and milkweed is widely recognized, but monarchs are not the only insect to face the perils and protections of life among the milkweed. Join undergraduate researcher Katie Galletta to learn about the 11 insect species that specialize in eating milkweed, and to explore findings from her summer-long research project on the interactions between monarch butterflies and the larger milkweed community. For this study, Galletta surveyed 28 different milkweed patches throughout southern New Hampshire, including two on conserved land in Peterborough.

Noon to 1 p.m. via Zoom. Closed captioning will be available. To get the login details, please register at https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZAufuipqzgpHtRXQQ7zly5uUIGrRs36xRID.

Co-sponsored by the Harris Center for Conservation Education, the Hancock Town Library, the Jaffrey Public Library, the Keene Public Library, and the Peterborough Town Library. The Women in Science Speaker Series is made possible with support from the Putnam Foundation, a donor-advised fund of the New Hampshire Charitable Foundation.
