This year’s election will likely unfold in ways that challenge all of us, regardless of our party affiliation and political preference. The Buddha instructed that our feeling reactions are critical objects for reflection in the work of reducing suffering. We invite you to gather as sangha on the evening of November 4th for an opportunity to reflect upon our reactions to the election and to cultivate stillness in the midst of the storm. We’ll meet from 6:30pm until 8pm, EDT, on the VIMC Zoom link. Hope you can join us.

From the Buddha’s teachings in the Anguttara Nikaya Sutta:

Gain and loss, fame and disrepute,
praise and blame, happiness and suffering –
These are the common human conditions,
transitory, unstable, and subject to change.

The wise, every mindful, know these dhammas,
seeing them as subject to change.
Pleasant experiences do not excite such a mind;
unpleasant experiences do not irritate such a mind…
