Big Little Boatbuilding offers a unique bonding opportunity for Adult/Child partners through building a wooden boat. You pick your team, we help you build your boat, THAT YOU KEEP!
Each team builds one Jellyfish style boat with no plywood, epoxy, fiberglass, or toxic sealants, that they get to keep. Teams must include at least one kid between eleven & eighteen, and one adult. More helpers of any age are welcomed (within reason – check with us before chartering a bus!).
What is a Jellyfish Boat? Some people would call it a canoe. Others would call it a kayak. You could call it a double-ender. Old timers from down south would call it a pirogue; old timers from up north would call it a two-pointer. So we just call it a Jellyfish! The Jellyfish is a small, flat-bottom canoe – about 14 feet long and two and a half feet wide. It is big enough for most adults to use alone with a kayak paddle, two smaller kids can use it as a tandem canoe, and its small enough to be a young person’s first solo boating experience.
This workshop consists of two, 6 hour sessions happening the weekend of July 17. Cost of this course is $425 per team, includes all materials for one Jellyfish boat.
