Art & Resistance in the Classroom

Come join us for a day of Professional Development and learning! Spark Teacher Ed. Institute is conducting a workshop to introduce teachers and teachers in training to social movements use of art as a form of resistance and social change.
In the first half of the workshop teachers will learn the concepts behind Theatre of the Oppressed and how it can be integrated into the classroom. Prior to the workshop, teachers are expected to read “What Type of Revolution Are We Rehearsing For?” by Ricardo D. Rosa. There will also be stations with examples of spoken word artists, graffiti artists, hip hop artists, books, etc.
In the second half of the workshop Michael Jacobson-Hardy will present his work in photography and documentary filmmaking around labor issues and the school-to-prison pipeline, especially in the Holyoke-Springfield area.
