The Latchis Theatre in Brattleboro, in collaboration with Vidhi Salla of Vidhi’s Bollywood Jukebox, will be presenting a month-long series of Bollywood films starting on Sunday. The historic local theater will be showcasing four different Indian films, twice a week, with cultural introductions before each screening and a pop-up bazaar of Indian handicrafts inside the venue. There will also be an online discussion and Q&A about the films hosted by Salla after the conclusion of the series, with the date to be announced during the screenings. Admission to the screenings is by a suggested donation of $10, with subtitles in English and no one turned away for lack of funds. Seating is first-come-first-serve, and advance booking is not required. Attendees are encouraged to dress up in Indian finery for the opening showcase on Oct. 15. The films being shown are “Bajirao Mastani” (2015), “Sholay” (1975), “Monsoon Wedding” (2001) and “3 Idiots” (2009). More information about each film and the series can be found on vidhiism.com or latchis.com.
