Celebrating Lily Seabird’s Big Shout-Out

Burlington’s indie-rock scene is thriving despite challenges such as venue shortages and decreased federal arts funding. Local acts like Robber Robber, Greg Freeman, Greaseface, and Lily Seabird are revitalizing the city’s music landscape. Seabird, recognized nationally after her LP Trash Mountain was featured in Rolling Stone, symbolizes this resurgence. The post-pandemic era has seen a remarkable output of quality music from the area, with acts increasingly gaining attention.

Freeman’s upcoming LP Burnover, along with performances from various bands, underscores the burgeoning talent. Seabird is touring this summer while also preparing for a local show. Burlington’s younger musicians are hitting the road to promote Vermont’s indie rock, with shows scheduled at venues like Radio Bean and Higher Ground.

New music continues to emerge, including trumpeter Tom Gershwin’s smooth jazz single "Belong Here" from his upcoming album Wellspring. Madaila has been releasing new singles bi-weekly in anticipation of their LP Night Cuisine. Synth rockers Night Protocol have been active with local showcases and music videos, while the punk venture We Should’ve Been Plumbers released a double-sided single exploring economic themes.

Expat Andrew Richards also contributes with new singles blending jazz and R&B. Additionally, Zach Pollakoff is launching his art studio Bauschaus VT, highlighting local musicians alongside prominent acts. This creative hub reinforces the artistic legacy in Burlington as it continues to thrive in the indie music scene. The collective efforts highlight the vitality and resilience of local artists.
