The “Hug Your Farmer” fundraiser, established in 2011, returns to the Flynn Main Stage in Burlington on November 22, with all proceeds benefiting the Vermont Community Foundation’s VT Flood Response & Recovery Fund. This year’s event, themed “A Night at the Opry,” celebrates legendary country music, featuring artists such as Grace Potter, Mike Gordon from Phish, and Dwight + Nicole, among others. Hosted by Rich Price, the concert aims to evoke the spirit of community fostered by the historic Grand Ole Opry. The night will kick off with an opening set by the local honky-tonk band Wild Leek River.
In addition to this event, the jam band Phish recently raised over $4 million for the Divided Sky Residential Recovery Program, a nonprofit founded by their guitarist Trey Anastasio, focusing on addiction recovery. This fundraising success came from a three-night concert in Albany, N.Y., following their earlier benefit performances that netted over $3.5 million for flood recovery in Saratoga Springs. The program director Melanie Gulde expressed deep gratitude for the support from Phish and their fans, which will significantly aid individuals in overcoming addiction.
Meanwhile, Valley Stage Productions has launched its 2024-25 P.M. Sundays concert series at the Richmond Congregational Church, featuring various artists throughout the season. The series began on November 10 with Sadie Gustafson-Zook and will continue with performances from Michelle Willis and others through April.
