Burlington’s music scene is thriving, showcasing a variety of genres and talented local artists like Lily Seabird and Robber Robber. However, local venues have faced challenges, such as rising insurance costs and safety concerns related to downtown crime. For instance, the Monkey House in Winooski has scaled back its shows, and a recent shooting near Red Square has unsettled concertgoers.
Despite these challenges, two long-standing local venues have undergone revitalizations. Club Metronome, established in 1992, has been rebranded as the Lounge at Nectar’s, led by general manager Tyler Nettleton. The transformation aims to create a more versatile space that accommodates live music and offers a lounge experience, including late-night food and free entry for most events, reinforcing its commitment to showcasing local talent.
Meanwhile, Manhattan Pizza & Pub has reemerged as Rincon Pizzeria and Tapas Bar under new ownership led by Nathan MacAlpine. With a focus on diverse musical genres, especially those reflecting the local cultural communities, the venue has renovated its stage to enhance the performance experience.
Both establishments are in the process of soft openings and are eager to reinstate their roles in Burlington’s vibrant music scene. The Lounge and Rincon are expected to attract local musicians and audiences with fresh offerings and improved environments, contributing positively to the local arts culture.
As these venues remodel and showcase new talent, there’s optimism about Burlington’s music future. The recent successful performances, like Delicate Steve at Nectar’s, are signs of a flourishing music community ready to embrace both change and tradition.
