On the Beat: River City Rebels Return, New Music From Forest Station

Forest Station, a bluegrass band formed in 2023, will be releasing their debut single “Yellow Aspens” on March 22. The song is a tribute to trees and is part of their upcoming LP, Earth Tones, which will be available on streaming platforms on April 5. The band will also be performing at Nectar’s in Burlington on the same day to celebrate the release.

After a long hiatus, the River City Rebels, a punk band that formed in 1997, are back with a new EP titled Pop Culture Baby, produced by Dave Minehan of the Replacements. The band, known for their success in the late 20th century, will be celebrating their 25th anniversary with a show at the Main Street Museum in White River Junction on June 1.

In other news, Howlermano Photography recently showcased tintype portraits at Club Metronome in Burlington on March 16. Photographer Jeff Howlett creates authentic portraits using a unique process involving metal plates coated with emulsion and silver nitrate. The portraits are then developed with flashbulbs and sealed with lacquer, creating a vintage look. This event allowed attendees to witness the process firsthand.

Overall, it’s shaping up to be a big year for Vermont’s music scene, with new releases from Forest Station and the return of the River City Rebels. The unique photography event by Howlermano Photography also added to the excitement of Vermont’s nightlife scene.
