Burlington City Arts recently announced the lineup for Highlight, the city’s New Year’s Eve celebration. The announcement was made at a launch party at Foam Brewers, featuring a performance by Abbie Morin, aka Hammydown. The Big Gay New Year show at the ECHO Leahy Center for Lake Champlain will feature Caroline Rose, Lutalo, tip/toe, and other artists. Other events on New Year’s Eve include a Taylor Swift Eras Tour Dance Party, a performance from Circus Smirkus, and music from various local artists. Highlight also features art installations and fireworks. Much of the programming originated from submissions to the Bright Ideas Project. Rockin’ Ron the Friendly Pirate has released a new holiday song, “Happy Merry Jolly.” The Vermont Blues Society annual meeting will feature a screening of the documentary “Bonnie Blue: James Cotton’s Life in the Blues,” followed by performances from Dave Keller and Chad Hollister. Lastly, photographer Luke Awtry captured the Highlight Launch Party at Foam Brewers, featuring a performance by Hammydown and the announcement of the lineup for the New Year’s Eve festival. Abbie Morin’s performance at the launch party included solo acoustic tunes and exemplified the sense of community in Burlington’s music scene.
