Brattleboro’s once alternative and now anchor bookstore is changing hands

Nancy Braus opened an independent bookstore in 1984 as an alternative to the mainstream literary scene in Brattleboro, Vermont. Her store, Everyone’s Books, has been a fixture in the community, surviving the closure of other bookstores and a changing local landscape. After 40 years, Nancy is selling the store to Red Durkin, a new owner from California, who is eager to maintain the business as it is while also finding new ways to improve and grow it. Everyone’s Books continues to serve its community by providing books, greeting cards, and personal service, and shows no sign of slowing down, despite recent closures of other long-standing local businesses.
