Leland & Gray students are putting on a production of “Mean Girls: the Musical,” with shows on November 9-11. The play is directed by Doran Hamm and produced by Shannon Ward of the Vermont Suitcase Company. The cast includes students such as Gigi Birri, Oliver Andersen, and Marley Felker. Birri, who plays Gretchen Wieners, sees similarities between the characters in “Mean Girls” and today’s high schoolers. Andersen, who plays Principal Duvall, stepped out of his comfort zone for the play. Marley Felker, who plays Karen Smith, enjoys the humor in her character. Hamm, the new theater director at Leland & Gray, is excited to continue the school’s legacy of theater work. He emphasized the enthusiasm and involvement of the students in the production. The storyline of “Mean Girls” still holds up, and the production provides opportunities for students to participate in all aspects of theater. The small size of the school allows students to be involved in multiple activities. Overall, the production of “Mean Girls: the Musical” at Leland & Gray promises to be a fun and engaging show for both the cast and the audience.
