‘If you miss it, it’s gone’: Outdoor light, sound exhibit inspires interpretive dances, cartwheels | Entertainment

“Dream Garden” was an outdoor exhibit of light, sound, and movement at Hiland Hall Garden in Bennington, Vermont. The event featured the work of lumia artist Geo Stadnik and musician Brian DeAngelo, along with several contributing artists and musicians. Lumia involves creating imagery using shapes and light, and at “Dream Garden,” Stadnik and others worked from a projection station under a tent, casting constantly changing images on tapestries hung on a tree line. DeAngelo conducted a group of improvising musicians under another tent, while people blew bubbles, made life-size shadow puppets, and did interpretive dances on the wet lawn in front of the images. Glowsticks fell from the sky, and children played around the lawn and trees. A greenhouse with its own installation featured old photos, cellophane, and different textures hanging from a mobile controlled by a fan. The event was described as an evolution of a previous event and possible future directions for similar installations were discussed by Stadnik. The Vermont Arts Exchange, the host of the event, is based in North Bennington. More information is available on their website, vtartxchange.org.
